Dear Participants, Sponsors and Partners,
We regret to inform you that the 2023 Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, previously scheduled to be held on October 15-19, has been cancelled. This decision comes after exhaustive efforts to secure the necessary permits for the event, which proved to be an insurmountable challenge due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.
Earlier this year, Bonnier acquired the exclusive rights to operate the tournament for the next five years on behalf of its owner, the Los Cabos Tourism Board. Subsequently, we diligently pursued the required permits and were given assurances that they would be granted. Unfortunately, a permit was ultimately issued to a third party, who represents neither Bonnier nor the Tourism Board.
Despite our best efforts, the third party in possession of the permit has refused to release it, and has set forth unreasonable demands in exchange for doing so. The issuing agency refuses to intervene, despite our exclusive licensing agreement from the Los Cabos Tourism Board. Regrettably, we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation, as Bonnier has successfully operated tournaments around the world for more than 25 years without encountering conditions of this nature.
We deeply regret any inconvenience or disappointment this cancellation may cause to our valued participants, sponsors, and partners. It is with great reluctance that we make this decision, but we cannot, in good conscience, agree to the terms dictated by an unauthorized third party.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament for more than 20 years. Your unwavering commitment is deeply appreciated, and we look forward to reuniting in the future for a successful and memorable event. We will immediately issue full refunds to any teams who have made deposits and/or paid entry fees.
For any inquiries or concerns regarding this cancellation, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Bonnier Events
